Ed looked back at him. “What’s going on?” He didn’t reply
right away since the newscaster said, “We’ll take you to the scene of the crime
now.”
He didn’t want to look, but he knew he had to. The picture
on the tv changed and…it wasn’t his house! He couldn’t place it, but when they
started to interview the owner he recognized him. It was the man who had
visited him today, the fellow A.A. member he knew as “Sam.” He was obviously
distraught and he kept looking down at a picture he was holding.
“I can’t believe someone would do this,” he sobbed. He tried
to go on but couldn’t. The reporter took over. “Police are now going over the
crime scene now, as they look for the killer of Sandy Stevens, wife of Sam
Stevens.” She held up the picture for a close up with the camera: it was the
dead woman he had seen in his kitchen. But how had she gotten there, to be
found dead here?
