"The Road Back," Part V
“What happened to you?” Ed asked as he opened the door. He walked into the house past Ed. “Close the door,”he said, trying not to look back. “Can you patch me up?” he asked. Ed looked quickly out the door before answering. “You’ve been drinking again,” he said, shaking his head.

“It’s not like that,” he tried to explain. “I’ve been good
lately, going to my A.A. meetings and everything.” That’s when it finally
clicked. “The A.A. meetings!” he said. That’s where he remembered the man at
his door. He had been there too, plus the quiet woman---she was supposed to be
his wife. He couldn’t remember her name.
“What are you talking about?” Ed asked. He took a look at
the wound and probed it gently. He turned away from Ed. “I forgot, you don’t
watch t.v.” he said. He turned the t.v. on.
“Local police are at a residence in Waukesha where a
homicide has been reported,” the newscaster said.
