I was reading the paper this morning, and of course I save my favorite part for last: the comics--- or, as I like to call him “The Editorials.” For me, what I read here reflects more on what's going on in the world better than anywhere else. Of course, the local news, weather, and sports have their own place in the paper, but for me the comics is where I really get an idea what's going on.
Today I was looking at one of my favorite comics, “Arlo and Janis,” and it really made me think about what's going on with the new smart phones, the new technology, the new whatever that’s going on out in the” real world.” I can remember when I swore I would never have an iPhone. “No. I don't need one of those fancy things! Just give me a regular cell phone--- that's all I need.” Little did I know that when I got one for my birthday last year I would literally fall in love with you thing. I can't live without it now, and I wonder how I did before I had it.
This comic brought me back to reality. One thing that I love to do this just take a walk, be it in the woods, in the park, or just around the block with my dog fact. It's time to relax, to really get away from everything, especially all the technology that sometimes drives me crazy, and here in this comic Janis is using her smart phone to organize and document everything about their walk together, and I can really understand when Arlo made the comment that he did.
Now I really understand why I don't take my phone with me when I go for a walk Zack...
Here is another great reason to put the phone down once in a while.

I now leave it at home when I go for a walk. :-)
ReplyDeleteIf we always use our GPS and smart phones we will never get lost. But never getting lost means never discovering that out-of-the-way B&B or that hole-in-the-wall diner. I hope to never loose my sense of adventure. MB
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Marcy! I know I've never lost my sense of adventure
ReplyDeleteTechnology is a great thing, however adventure and curiosity are also.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this one, I am always with my cell phone I can never put it down, until I got the famous question from my child, mommy can we get rid of cell phones, for a day I asked why she said because everyone is on them and its not good. SO I only use mine when I need to
ReplyDeleteGood for you, April! As the old saying goes, "Out of the mouth of babes comes wisdom."
ReplyDeleteTechnology is the child of curiosity and adventure---someone famous said that, but I can't remember who it was right now.
